PROFILE

Born in 1975 and raised on her family’s cider farm in Somerset, Alice Temperley trained at Central Saint Martins before completing a Master’s in fabric technology and print at the Royal College of Art. A year after graduating, she launched Temperley London in 2000 — beginning, as legend has it, by printing and sewing dresses herself out of a room in the Metropolitan Hotel.

American Vogue described her as “the designer making the biggest waves in British fashion” in 2006, a year she also launched Temperley Bridal, now known for its ethereal silhouettes and exquisite hand-worked embellishment. The brand’s aesthetic, modern bohemianism, intricate craftsmanship, and an effortless femininity, has attracted a devoted following that includes the Duchess of Cambridge, Beyoncé, Naomi Campbell, Keira Knightley, and Sienna Miller.

Temperley London now has standalone stores across London, Somerset, and Dubai, with online distribution reaching over 30 countries and more than 150 wholesale accounts including Selfridges, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Net-a-Porter.

Alice was awarded an MBE for services to the fashion industry in 2011 and sits on the British Fashion Council Advisory Board. Now in her third decade at the helm, she remains one of British fashion’s most enduring independent voices.
