PROFILE

A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology with a background in fashion and art history, trend research, and forecasting, Antoine Gregory is a New York-based fashion consultant, archivist, stylist, and brand director. It was at FIT, where he was often the only Black student, that the seed of his life’s work was planted.

In 2016, during New York Fashion Week, Gregory noticed a near-total absence of Black designers on the official schedule. His response was a Twitter thread, a running list of Black designers, their brands, and their websites. Four years later, that thread had grown into something far larger. In 2020, he launched Black Fashion Fair: a conceptual retail, editorial, and cultural platform dedicated to the discovery, documentation, and preservation of Black fashion — past, present, and future.

The platform includes a designer directory of over 250 Black designers from Ann Lowe to Anifa Mvuemba, a direct-to-consumer marketplace featuring emerging talent, and an annual independent publication, one of the first of its kind dedicated entirely to Black fashion, style, and culture. Collaborators have included No Sesso, Theophilio, FUBU, Pyer Moss, Telfar, and the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat. Gregory has also served as Brand Director at Theophilio, winner of the 2021 CFDA American Emerging Designer of the Year, and launched the Museum World Tour with the Brooklyn Museum, a cultural experience designed to counter the historical exclusion of Black artists from major institutional spaces.
