Long before African couture became a global conversation, Imane Ayissi was redefining what luxury fashion from the continent could look like. The Cameroonian designer has spent decades championing African craftsmanship, creating elegant collections that merge traditional techniques with the precision and refinement of Parisian haute couture.
Imane Ayissi is the founder and artistic director of his independent haute couture house, Imane Ayissi Couture (IMANE AYISSI SAS). He leads the creative direction of his brand, while long-time business partner and collaborator Jean-Marc Chauve manages the operations as the company's president and managing director.
A former dancer and model, Imane brought a unique artistic perspective to fashion when he launched his eponymous label. His designs draw on the richness of African textiles, natural fibres, and artisanal craftsmanship, reinterpreting them through contemporary silhouettes that are both sophisticated and timeless. Every collection is a celebration of heritage, proving that innovation and tradition can exist beautifully side by side.
In 2020, Imane made history as the first designer from sub-Saharan Africa to be invited as a guest member of the prestigious Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, presenting his collections during Paris Haute Couture Week. His work has since earned international acclaim for elevating African craftsmanship onto one of fashion's most exclusive stages while remaining deeply connected to the communities and artisans who inspire it.
