Born in Brixton, South London, to a French mother and Senegalese father, Julia Sarr-Jamois began modelling at 17 before pivoting to editorial — joining i-D Magazine at 19 as an intern, eventually rising to Senior Fashion Editor and working alongside photographers including Tyrone Lebon, Harley Weir, and Zoë Ghertner.
In 2018, she joined British Vogue as Fashion Editor-at-Large before becoming Fashion Director under Edward Enninful's tenure — making her the youngest person and the first Black woman to hold the position in Vogue's history. Her editorial work has taken her from shoots with Serena Williams in Los Angeles to Adwoa Aboah to a cinematic journey aboard the Orient Express. Beyond the page, she styled Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour and has built a commercial client portfolio spanning Chanel, Hermès, Fendi, Burberry, and emerging talents like Kenneth Ize.
In July 2025, she was named Fashion Director of Edward Enninful's highly anticipated 72 Magazine — one of the most talked-about new editorial launches in years. A founding member of the Mentoring Matters and Rubric mentoring initiatives, Julia has consistently championed diversity and access throughout her career — and has a prior connection to GTCO Fashion Weekend, having joined the panel in 2018 to champion emerging talent and education.
