PROFILE

Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Law Roach grew up far from the front rows of fashion week. He studied psychology at Chicago State University before his real calling took over, opening Deliciously Vintage, a boutique in Chicago's Pilsen neighbourhood that became his first creative laboratory. His styling debut came by chance when Kanye West visited the store in 2009, drawing the attention of paparazzi and industry insiders, and everything changed from that moment.

What followed was a career that redefined what a stylist could be. Unlike most stylists who began as interns or assistants, Roach built his own network from scratch with a client list that grew to include Zendaya, Céline Dion, Kerry Washington, Anya Taylor-Joy, Naomi Campbell, Ariana Grande, and Lewis Hamilton. He prefers the title "image architect" because what he does is more than dressing people; it is building icons. He executive produced the Tommy x Zendaya line for Tommy Hilfiger, and in 2022 became the first-ever recipient of the CFDA's inaugural Stylist Award, a historic recognition of a role the industry had long undervalued. The Hollywood Reporter named him the most powerful stylist in the world in both 2021 and 2022, and he was named to TIME100's Most Influential People.

In March 2023, he announced his retirement from full-time styling, citing the pressures and politics of the fashion system, only to return, on his own terms, more deliberately and more powerfully than before. He continues as Zendaya's sole creative director, co-curating her dual archival looks by Maison Margiela and Givenchy for the 2024 Met Gala, and in 2025 served as a creative partner for the exhibition Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. He published his bestselling book How to Build a Fashion Icon: Notes on Confidence in 2024. He launched School of Style, an online platform mentoring the next generation of stylists, and currently serves as a judge on Project Runway's 2025/2026 reboot.
